Seven generations of the Lenoir family have kept a small country store in Horatio, South Carolina, in continuous operation for the last two hundred years. Since 1900, the store has also housed the town’s small post office. More than just a place to buy stamps and pick up mail, the store and post office serve as a community center for this isolated rural town.

But budget cuts in Washington, DC threaten the very existence of the Lenoir Country Store and its post office. It’s one of 1800 small post offices on the chopping block (a move that would save less than one-half of one percent of the USPS budget woes). If the Post Office goes, the store will be forced to close, which would devastate the community.
