We’re excited to invite you to the next installment of our TPS Presents lecture series, featuring Melissa Farlow. The talk will take place on June 6 at 12:00 p.m. eastern time.
Melissa Farlow is known for her personal approach when photographing people. Her over 20 National Geographic projects have focused on issues, cultures and landscapes in South America, Europe, and every part of the U.S. Assignments addressed diverse topics in the Okefenokee Swamp, Alaska’s Tongass, the Alps, the Hudson Valley, Kentucky Horse Country, and the BLM’s public lands.
Awarded a Pulitzer Prize with the staff of the Louisville Courier-Journal, Farlow received a National Headliner Award as well as Pictures of the Year portfolio honors while at the Pittsburgh Press. Named Distinguished Alumni by the IU School of Journalism, she was inducted into Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame and the Missouri Photojournalism Hall of Fame.
Her work with mustangs was published in the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt book Wild at Heart. Other publications include Wild Lands of the West and Long Road South featuring South America’s Pan American highway. Additionally, her images are in over 70 books including the Day in the Life series, Women in the Material World, Geographic’s The Photographs, Best 100 Wildlife Photographs and in Women Photographers at National Geographic.
She received a master’s degree in journalism at the University of Missouri. She consults and mentors for The Photo Society, Girls Who Click, and teaches workshops around the world. She has been on the faculty of the Missouri Photo Workshop for over 20 years. She and her husband, photographer Randy Olson, split their time between Pennsylvania and Oregon.
The talk will be followed with a Q&A session moderated by TPS Communications Director Alex Snyder.
