Over the past decade, Stuart Palley has photographed over 150 wildfires in California – focusing on the collision of human development, climate change, and the aftermath. His 2022 non-fiction book Into the Inferno chronicles the stories behind images from past fires. He documented the January 2025 Los Angeles Wildfires from the first hours after the blazes broke out. He is continuing to focus on documenting the mitigation and recovery efforts going forward. The goal of his work is to inform viewers of the ongoing Pyrocene era of fire and educate on a better understanding fire. In addition to his recent work, Stuart will present a brief look back at how he began covering climate issues as well as personal projects. He will also share his perspective on photographer safety in “natural” disasters and significant climate events.
The talk will be followed with a Question-and-Answer session moderated by TPS Communications Director @AlexSnyderPhoto. At the end of the talk, we’ll also be giving away a signed print from Stuart!
