Pete Souza is best known for his work as the Chief Official White House Photographer for all eight years of the Obama administration. But during his career, he has also worked as a staff photojournalist for four newspapers; a freelance photographer for National Geographic, Life, and other publications; an official White House photographer during the Reagan administration; and an assistant professor at Ohio University, where he once taught a class that including the host of TPS Presents, Alex Snyder
Souza’s book, Obama: An Intimate Portrait debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list and is on its 11th printing. In 2020, Souza became the subject of a documentary film, The Way I See It. The film reveals how Souza transformed from a respected White House photographer and photojournalist to a searing commentator on the current political situation, i.e., the rise of Donald Trump. Nominated for an Emmy, the film premiered on MSNBC and became the highest rated program in MSNBC history. Souza also won the Critic’s Choice Award for Most Compelling Living Subject of a documentary, probably because Julie Roberts once kissed him on the cheek.
